Jessica J.E. Smith

Jess, a graduate from Texas A&M University (class of 2002) with a degree in Political Science and Speech Communication, decided to stay home and raise her babies when her first was born in October of 2006. Always a busy bee, Jess started The Quilt and Needle from home in the summer of the following year. The online interactive community went live in December of 2007.

Jess' first completed quilt top was a mystery pattern that she saw as a simple, less than stellar pattern. However, her love of surprises lead her to start designing mystery quilts for The Q&N, and she set out to design patterns that quilters would cherish upon completion.

Along the way, Jess has learned that mystery patterns do more than just surprise quilters. They are an excellent way for quilters to stretch their personal boundaries, attempt patterns they would not have thought they were capable of making, and (perhaps most importantly) find their own inner designer diva.

In addition to hosting Mystery Weekends and Mystery Retreats for The Q&N, Jess teaches her patterns and Mystery Classes at the local quilt store in College Station/Bryan, Tx (Lonestar Quiltworks). She also began designing patterns for Northcott Fabrics in November of 2009.
